ND SEGMENT: THE STRUCTURE OF ITS ORGANIZATION
We come to focus on one last qualification for a potential pastor: that a potential pastor must be a man. That is what we believe as Southern Baptists. The Baptist Faith & Message, our doctrinal guideline, states this about the church in Article 6: “Its scriptural offices are pastors and deacons. While both men and women are gifted for service in the church, the office of pastor is limited to men as qualified by Scripture.” In this message, I am not out to answer every question or objection to our position on this issue, but I am going to answer the question “Why not women?” by putting out on the table in clear view, our fundamental biblical basis for our position.
A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.
But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.
For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve.
And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.
